Hi all,
Not my usual type of post as I don't try to catch the small ones
Thought I would do something different today and went out with the intention of hitting every Barbel that took my bait instead of being selective. Might be due to not having one for three days. Well it took thirty seconds to get the first one, then moved and around a minute for the second. Back to swim one, had to wait two minutes, swim two less than a minute, swim one bit slow had to wait five minutes. Swim three about twenty seconds...So including moving back and forth, six fish in around two hours. Best fish around 8lb. This was from probably one of the most hammered stretches on the B.A. not one I often frequent.
Then I had a phone call from a friend who I have been meaning to show how to stalk bigger fish and left to meet him. Well I could not resist having a go at another venue to see if they would be just as easy, they were, another around 8lb. in less than five minutes. So seven for me in less than three hours fishing. Wonder how many I could have had if I had not got the 'phone call.......To be honest I think I will go back to being selective as I really did not enjoy it that much.
Then I went in search of my friend and eventually found him in the most pressured swim on that venue. Oh well challenge on and he already had some pretty spooky small ones in the swim. After half an hour of baiting and watching in an area that most would ignore, whist keeping the small ones occupied within the main swim, finally a decent fish fish turned up. Shortly after careful positioning of the bait whilst she was out of the swim she was back in munching away. On the second visit my friend Alan stuck into this one

Not bad at all for five minutes in the water at 10lb. 03oz. Very long and lean, big fish later in the year.
Mission accomplished ........Now that was really enjoyable and well worth it
Regards Martin
